what a week...... !!!!!!!

August 18th to August 27th... ran 25 subjects.. the problem with experiments on human subjects is that you are subjectes to your subjects' whims.. not your subject being subjected to your experiments.. by the way, i dont ewven think you're allowed to call them subjects anymore.. research participants??? too long.. subjects works for me.

So, ya, 25 subjects. Frankly speaking its 17 subjects, but 8 of them had to be run twice .. on the PC and the simulator.. so that effectively makes it 25.. this probably doesnt make sense for some of you oddballs that popped into this page and are reading this and wondering if i'm dr. frankestien or something.. believe me its all legal..

also going to be working the International Students Orientation from tomorrow and so its gonna be another bizzy bizzy week.. And yes, Don's gng to DC on Sunday, and wants crunched eye and PC data by saturday.. great.. there goes my sleep again..

on the plus side... am gonna watch "The Hero" tonight.. Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, and the cinematographer from "In the Mood For Love" - Christopher Doyle. The cinematography alone is enough for me to get excited about the movie.. forget the dodging a thousand arrows scene..:D .. maybe i'll write abt the movie when i get back!!

till then.. ciao

my pov :)

ray-tracing-
curious labs: poser and trace - abt $150/- each i guess
blender by the blender foundation - free

3d modelling programs which are pretty damned powerful.. specially since the only time i remember trying to 3d-model was in autocad 9.. okie, thats a little exagerration, autocad 13. Of course, my work on the virtual databases on our driving simulator doesnt count!! thats strictly "work" !
but no kidding, these programs are powerful, not too difficult and cheap or free!! and to think i was abt to purchase 3dStudioMax!! ;) .. ya right!! of course, i dont know anything abt 3DSMAX except that it is VERY powerful, so there probably is no basis for comparision, but for amateur ray tracers like me.. blender works jus fine... hopefully!!

satellite images-
i went about looking for the terraserver website and realised that its on a microsoft server now, which probably means that microsoft owns it!! so microsoft probably owns satellite pictures of every square yard in northern america! scary or what? maybe even real time satellite data!!

since its so difficult to give directions to my experiment subjects, i wanted to draw a good map, and thought of getting an aerial photo to go with that.. i'm gonna post those up here just for ghits and siggles.. :) .. and those of my place too.. :).. enjoy

XXVIII Olympics - Athens 2004

I printed out the olympic schedule available to us comcast viewers in western mass.. pretty limited.. sux.. but i watched a part of the opening ceremonies.. a part of it, coz the whole thing was like 8 hours long?? maybe not so much, but long long long...

by the way, i've ported the nehs gallery to a more stable box so here it is, http://anuj.is-a-geek.com/gallery/nehs -- and voila, blogspot recognizes this as a link! :)

executions in india, natural dam in tibet threatening india, hurricane charley hurricaning florida, and pitiable new releases in thatres!! (alien vs predator the only movie release this week?? whats up with that???)

Thoughts: isn't it about time they made a new mob movie ?
Billy Bathgate - what's with Bruce Willis and his tragic special appearances?? look at Charlie's Angels 2 - Full Throttle.. I feel like throttling that movie!! god, what a waste.. have i said this before?? i dont know, but i dont care if i'm repeating myself.. this is MY page and MY rants and raves..

and then another weekend...

Went to Boston on Saturday... met up with Payal and her fiance... after 4 yrs. Wow, lots of changes.. and then we managed to catch a free concert by the Spin Doctors... that was an added plus for sure..

Watched "Collateral"... and that leaves me with no movies worth watching on the screen till Friday... hopefully they'll release something worth watching by then.. oh.. i havent watched "the village" yet. Hope its more like 6th sense rather than signs...

yet another week...

i'm probably logging this just coz i havent logged in a while.. but as i have said.. i'm a man of few blogs.!

watched some movies this week...

Bourne Supremacy.. excellent.. i read the book probably more than 10 years ago.. but the movie does justice.. i dont know if the story line is maintained but its good nonetheless.. and the first part is in Goa! and the car chase scene in moscow - not exactly ronin or the french connection, but good in its own way.. LOUD!! i guess i watched it on the big sscreen and so have a better appreciation for it.. Ludlum did have some gems.. just takes a good movie-maker to bring out the best parts of the stories.. now look at the Holcroft covenant... granted, that movie is probably older than I am, but still.. anyone who saw the movie.. without having any idea about Ludlum as a writer would probably not have been put off from Ludlum.. now i just wanna see if they push their luck and go ahead and make the Bourne Ultimatum too!!

Company - Ram Gopal Verma.. got that off Movielink.com. 1 of 4 hindi movies available .. i dont know if i liked it coz i havent watched a hindi movie in YEARS.. or if i liked it coz of the mob/mafia/bhai angle.. but it was pretty good.. a little too bloody i'd say... body count=way too many to count!!

http://anuj.is-a-geek.com/forum - this is the forum i created for nehs alumni but i'll be damned if anyone uses it.. still stuck on the mass email thing.. well.. i dont kow if its a failed experiment, lets see, maybe i need more publicity.. but it was fun to create it and a learning experience. .. apache, mySql, php all in one go.. pretty interesting..

thats all folks... for now..

snail blog-mail

the last post... thru email, took more than an hour to get posted!! wow.... to think we are so used to instant gratification that an hour seems almost ridiculous!!
my home page is in order, google and yahoo still dont find it.. and i dont have much time for these blogs now.. so lets see...

i hate having to go over something that i programmed 4 months ago and make changes.... i dont even remember what i did.. and my scribbles (read: notes) dont make sense to me!

downloaded a hindi movie from movieLink for $0.79 !! goto coupon-finder.com and they normally have these discount coupons!! :) .. so got a $4 movie at 20% of the price! too bad they have only 4 hindi movies there!

Blog-mail

I can send an email to an address and have a blog published!! what'll they think of next?? :)

so if i'm walking down the street, and feel the urge to blog, i can email from my cellphone (i dont have one, but theoretically...) and publish a blog. Or use my PDA with IR connection to my cell, or PDA with bluetooth to cell, or PDA with WiFi in a hotspot, or if i was in asia or europe, my GSM enabled PDA... wow.. the power to publish anytime!!

post script -
yahoo search is still better than google! well, thats coz a search for anuj pradhan brought up my blog-spot in yahoo.. and google gave my OUTDATED cached page in its results..
